Beartooth Foothills Project - Get on our roster for 2026!!
WHO:
AERI members are welcome!

WHAT:
The Beartooth Foothills project, located near Fishtail, MT, will take place on private land. This project will primarily include excavation to assess the possible cultural affiliation of aligned stone features. These excavations will primarily include preliminary tests that will determine future investigations.
This project will be perfect for learning the process of archaeological excavation and scientific data recovery. We will also have many fun discussions about methodology—which is just a fancy way of saying we'll discuss the most appropriate methods, or ways of collecting data and applying analytical measures, for future investigations to answer a scientific question using the archaeological record.

We are very excited about the Beartooth Foothills project as it begins its first season.

More about the project...
The purpose of this project was to assess the cultural association of boulders that may align with celestial movements. We took soil samples around multiple boulders and features to assess their age, and we are excited to see the results! Join us for the next leg of this project in 2026 to hear more about our findings!
